Department of Historical Studies: Limited Term Assistant Professor

The Department of Historical Studies (previously the department of History and the department of Classics & Ancient History) at the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton campus, invites applications for a ten-month Limited Term Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence on July 1, 2024, subject to final budgetary approval.

Applicants should have a completed PhD in History with research and teaching expertise in Atlantic Canada and/or the northern Atlantic World and have previous experience with graduate supervision. This position comes with a 3/2 teaching load and will include contributions to the department's graduate programs.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic department of excellent teachers and researchers with strengths in the histories of imperialism, colonialism, and slavery; war and society; intelligence and/or policing; gender and sexuality; health and disability; the environment; the Atlantic region. There may be opportunity to work with the department's scholarly periodical, Acadiensis: Journal of the History of the Atlantic Region. The University of New Brunswick is situated on unceded and unsurrendered Wolastoqey territory and is covered by the Peace and Friendship Treaties. Fredericton, a provincial capital, is located on the Wolastoq and is a vibrant city with diverse music and art scenes, extensive walking and cycling trails, many nature parks, and a historic downtown.
