Closing Date: Review of applications will begin on March 15, 2022.

The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of New Brunswick Saint John invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level, beginning July 1, 2022 or a mutually acceptable date thereafter. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

The successful candidate will be an Aquatic Functional Biologist whose research interests complement the current strengths within the Department. We invite applications from candidates whose research focuses on mechanistic understanding of biological processes in coastal or freshwater organisms (e.g., ecotoxicology, biochemistry, physiology, biomechanics, developmental biology). The candidate will offer undergraduate courses in their area of expertise and contribute to the UNBSJ Marine Semester program. UNB Saint John has a strong commitment to teaching and demonstrated excellence in teaching will be an asset.

Qualifications include a PhD degree and clear evidence of strong research ability, as the successful candidate will be expected to establish an externally funded research program and be involved in supervision of BSc (Honours) and graduate (MSc and PhD) students. They will also be expected to contribute to the development and activity of a new undergraduate program in Applied Coastal Ecology and research initiatives in Coastal Studies led by the Department.

The Department of Biological Sciences offers 4-year BSc degrees in Marine Biology, Biology, and Biology-Psychology, as well as research-based MSc and PhD degrees in various areas of Biological Sciences. It has 20 faculty members with research expertise in a variety of fields of biology (marine biology, evolution, ecology, physiology, aquaculture, fisheries, environmental biology and biodiversity), as well as geology, chemistry, and physics. The Saint John campus, located where one of the largest watersheds in North America flows into the Bay of Fundy, has recognized strengths in marine and freshwater biology. The department has excellent wet lab facilities equipped with seawater and dechlorinated freshwater.
