Faculty of Education: Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Second Language Education

The Faculty of Education in the University of New Brunswick invites applications for a continuing tenure track assistant professor in Second Language Education. This appointment will commence July 1, 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter subject to final budgetary approval.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess an earned doctoral degree from a recognized university with a dissertation focused on second language education. They will have an established program of research in second language education with a particular focus on French second language education. They will also possess an extremely high level of proficiency in French and English (i.e., Superior according to the NB Oral Proficiency Scale or C1/C2 according to the CEFR scale.)

The successful candidate will have a New Brunswick Teacher's certification and will have demonstrated successful teaching experience in K-12 New Brunswick schools. Experience teaching in Mathematics will be considered an asset.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position involves duties specific to the Second Language Research Institute of Canada (L2RIC) and to the Faculty of Education generally. L2RIC is an established and recognized institute that plays a pivotal role in second language education in New Brunswick and beyond. L2RIC's research and professional outreach activities are mainly defined and funded through its "Official Languages in Education" action plan as approved by the Department of Canadian Heritage. As a member of the L2RIC team, the successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in and be open to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in French as a second language, English as a second/additional language, French second language assessment, and bilingual/multilingual education. They will also participate in the on-going research and professional outreach activities of the Institute. As one of two tenure-track professors at L2RIC, the successful candidate will also assist the Director of L2RIC as needed with administrative tasks related to the overall management of the institute.

Within the Faculty of Education, the successful candidate will be required to teach in undergraduate and graduate programs as required. They will be expected to participate in Faculty committees and service.
