The Department of Chemical Engineering, in collaboration with the Centre for Nuclear Energy Research (CNER) at the University of New Brunswick, invites applicants for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment is subject to budgetary approval, with a proposed start date of January 1, 2021.
With the growing interest in Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology and a financial commitment from the New Brunswick SMR Research and Development Cluster partners (GNB, Moltex Energy Canada and ARC Nuclear Canada Inc.), CNER and the Department of Chemical Engineering are engaged in several activities supporting the growth of SMRs in New Brunswick. In addition, expansion of the Nuclear Engineering Option Program within the Department of Chemical Engineering is underway to provide future engineers with nuclear education to this emerging sector. The incumbent will be a key contributor in the growth of both the nuclear option program and current and future R&D activities.
Applicants must hold a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and a Doctorate Degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline with specialization in nuclear power plant technology. The incumbent will form a key part of the CNER scientific/engineering management team and will participate in ongoing and future research and development activities with our current partners in the NB SMR R&D Cluster. Additional roles within the Department of Chemical Engineering are expected as is the ability to grow their own research program aligned with the incumbent's research interests and expertise. The incumbent will be expected to register as a Professional Engineer in the Province of New Brunswick.
The successful incumbent must demonstrate a strong commitment to research and teaching through a proven track record highlighting research and teaching contributions. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to effectively teach core curriculum in the Chemical Engineering program and aid in the development and delivery of technical elective and graduate courses within the nuclear engineering discipline.
