The Collections Analysis/Bibliometrics Librarian will lead analysis of library collections, with a view to evaluating their relevance and impact in support of UNB's research, teaching and learning. The incumbent will work in a team environment to develop a framework for the systematic harvesting of quantitative and qualitative data that best illustrate the use and impact of library resources. In collaboration with library and faculty colleagues including Office of Research Services, the incumbent will develop and implement services, using bibliometrics, that assess the dissemination and impact of individual and institutional research. The successful candidate will provide support for the licensing and rights management of electronic resources. While not envisioned as a current responsibility, the position may be assigned specific disciplinary areas of liaison work.
UNB is the oldest English-speaking university in Canada, with two main campuses in Fredericton and Saint John and a student population of approximately 8,000 undergraduate and 2,000 graduate students. Key Responsibilities:
- Collect and analyze data related to collection usage, growth, and cost, and report and present on matters to inform acquisitions/cancellation decisions, to project budgetary needs, to develop collection strategies, and to inform Library and University Administration and other stakeholders of the value of library collections.
- Assist in the evaluation of collections and collections-support systems in relation to the Libraries' strategic and operational goals and the expectations of the University community.
- Develop and deliver services around measurement of research impact and bibliometrics, from the individual to the institutional level, for the University community.
- Assess library collections and services for purposes including external reviews, accreditation, and new program proposals
- Maintain a high level of awareness about new academic collections, publishing models, and emerging technologies for content delivery
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate degree from an ALA-accredited institution
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic and derivative measures for academic library collection and research impact assessment (e.g. COUNTER, SUSHI, citation counts, h-index, journal or discipline normalized metrics)
- Familiarity with bibliometric data sources (e.g. Scopus, Google Scholar, altmetrics,) and tools (e.g. InCites, SciVal) and library descriptive metadata standards (e.g. MARC, MODS, Dublin Core)
- Knowledge of mathematical and statistical methods and related software for data management (e.g. SPSS, SAS, Stata, Tableau, R,) manipulation, interpretation and analysis
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated experience with professional report writing and presentation
- Excellent interpersonal, intercultural, time management, and problem-solving skills
- 1-2 years of relevant experience in an academic, special, or research library
- Demonstrated initiative and strong leadership skill, with a willingness to share expertise, work in teams, and negotiate solutions with diverse groups
