Function

In partnership with construction industry practitioners and public owners, UNB is creating an Off-Site Construction Research Centre (Centre) to transform the industry by designing building elements that can be pre-manufactured under controlled factory conditions and then rapidly assembled at the job site. Often referred to as Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) in the shipbuilding, aerospace and automobile industries, this new approach in construction focuses on DfMA elements which are easy to manufacture and efficient to assemble. The successful candidate will provide leadership in growth and development of the Centre and support its mandate of joint industry-academic research as the Centre’s Innovation Director.
Representative Responsibilities
·    Aid the Centre’s Advisory Board in developing a strategic plan.
·    Create a schedule and budget to successfully implement the strategic plan.
·    Coordinate and document all significant meetings at the Centre, and report to the Advisory Board on progress achieved and budget-to-actual expenditures with respect to the strategic plan.
·    Prepare proposals, market to and network with private and public partner organizations to manage the entire client engagement process.
·    Coordinate the development of new research proposals, including providing advice on technical and commercial opportunities and challenges.
·    Support the Centre’s Research Chair and the other managers of the research program.
·    Liaise with other UNB departments and faculties to utilize in-house expertise wherever possible.
·    Network with global experts at other universities and research institutions in areas related to the initiatives undertaken by the Centre.
·    Organize joint industry-research seminars, conferences and events.
·    Lead the communications strategy to attract additional capacity and project investment in the Centre.
Requirements
·    Bachelors level education in a professional field (e.g., engineering and/or business).
·    Experience in innovation, communications and project management.
·    Knowledge of the Canadian construction industry and its principal players is an asset.
·    Very strong leadership and communication skills, and a record of achievements in applying research to practical outcomes.
