Information for graduates

About the ceremony

The university holds four ceremonies: A, B, C and D.


Guests must present tickets for admission to the ceremony. Each graduate receives four guest tickets.


The university rents black long-sleeved gowns for bachelor’s and master’s graduates, and solid red gowns for PhD recipients. Proper academic attire is required for the ceremony.

Reserve your hood and gown online, and pick them up on graduation day.

What happens on your graduation day?

On graduation day, graduating students will:

  1. Pick up hood, gown and parade card at the Student Union Building (SUB), room 103.
  2. Attend Encaenia orientation in the SUB Ballroom.
  3. Graduate!
  4. Attend Encaenia tea on the 1st floor of the CURRIE CENTER.
  5. Return hood and gown to the SUB room 103 after your ceremony.

Important details for graduates


It is very important that graduates attend the orientation session that precedes their ceremony. Led by the university marshal, the session provides grads with information ranging from the proper way to wear the academic hood to the degree-granting procedure.

Procession card

This is the card from which your name will be read out as you cross the stage to graduate. In addition to your name, it will contain a number to ensure that you are lined up and seated in the correct order.

Has your address changed?

If the address you provided on your application to graduate needs to be updated, please:

  • Before March 1: Update the information on the form
  • After March 1: Notify the Registrar’s Office at

Purchase a UNB diploma frame

The UNB Associated Alumni will be selling UNB diploma frames at the graduation facility.

Throughout the year (except during Encaenia and Convocation) frames for all degrees, except law, are available exclusively from the UNB Bookstore.
