The University of Essex is based at Wivenhoe Park, Colchester and received its Royal Charter in 1965. It is one of the UK's leading academic institutions and has an international reputation for the quality of its research and teaching. Due to high demand, Essex is not able to guarantee housing on-campus for incoming students. Incoming students may be encourage to find their own accommodation.

Essex offers single study bedrooms with shared kitchen facilities and either shared or en-suites bathrooms. If students are studying at Colchester they should select accommodation at our Colchester campus, students wishing to study at Southend can apply for accommodation at that location.

If you do not wish to apply for campus accommodation or are not offered campus accommodation, the Student Union offers assistance to find private local accommodation -

Accommodation remains open during the Christmas and Easter holidays. All students are required to vacate their rooms at the end of the Summer term.

Accommodation is arranged via Essex Abroad and students will be notified in August/September for October entry and in December for January entry. Accommodation cannot be guaranteed. Students are not able to use the online Accommodation Application.

Students are only permitted to take modules from the Colchester or Southend campus. Please note that it is not possible to study at Colchester and Southend at the same time. Students are not permitted to take non-credited modules.

All students are required to take 60 Essex credits per term (minimum and maximum)

You are automatically a member of the Students Union when you are a student at the University of Essex and there are no fees for this. They also run the on campus shops, nightclub and bar.
Over 120 clubs and societies, radio station, student newspaper you can join.
