UNB has a partnership with the Washington Center for Internship & Academic Seminars in Washington DC.

The center provides internship for 10 weeks over the summer, or for 15 week during the regular terms. The internships are located  in the US capital city, and the experience will not only provide valuable hands-on learning, but ALSO academic credits towards UNB degrees. 

Students of all disciplines can attend, as internship positions are available in the following areas:
- Arts, Humanities, Education
- Business, Economics, Trade
- Journalism, Communication, Media
- Government, Politics, International Relations, Global Studies
- Legal Affairs, Criminal Justice
- Health, Sciences and the Environment.

Students may intern at such prestigious agencies such as the Canadian or Mexican Embassies, Merrill Lynch, Amnesty International, Inter-American Development Bank or one of the hundreds of other non-governmental organizations or businesses located in Washington.

The Center places students in internships according to their interests, knowledge and skills, and provide support with the placements process.
In addition to the internship, students complete a leadership forum, take an academic course, develop a portfolio, and participate in a variety of career and professional programming and other activities through the Leadership Forum.

Course Timetable:

Previous UNB Saint John students have received 6 upper level Social Sciences credits for the internship. 

The academic course will be assessed by an academic advisor.

Visa Requirements: The Washington Center applies for a J-1 visa for student interns. The cost of the visa is included in the program fee for the internship.

Additional Information:

The NB Provincial government provides a $4,000 scholarship to eligible and selected NB resident students. UNB provides a additional $1,500 towards the program cost. These scholarships are not available for the post-graduate internship programme. To apply for the NB funding, complete the application form and send it to your campus Student Abroad Coordinator by December 1, 2014.
