Box 111, FI-80101 Joensuu, FinlandThe University of Eastern Finland was established in 2010 as the result of the merger of the University of Joensuu and the University of Kuopio. With approximately 15,000 students and 2,800 members of staff, the University of Eastern Finland is one of the largest universities in Finland. The university’s campuses are located in Joensuu, Kuopio and Savonlinna. The University of Eastern Finland is a multidisciplinary university, which offers teaching in more than 100 major subjects. The university comprises four faculties: the Philosophical Faculty, the Faculty of Science and Forestry, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies. The activities of the university underscore multidisciplinarity. The areas of expertise in research of the University of Eastern Finland are Forests and the Environment, Health and Well-being, and New Technologies and Materials. UNB and UEF University have established a transatlantic forestry master dual degree program (TRANSFOR-M), which started in 2010, allows students to spend one year working on their degree in Canada and one year at a European institution. Students in the program will earn both a Canadian and a European master's degree in forestry and environmental management. UNB's faculty of forestry and environmental management leads the Canadian initiative, partnered with the University of British Columbia and the University of Alberta. The European partner universities are: Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg in Germany, Bangor University in Wales, the University of Eastern Finland, and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. Applicants to the TRANSFOR-M program are selected based on their GPA and extracurricular activities. |

"Our term at UEF has been great. The teaching style is different from home, but we have very much enjoyed it, and been challenged in the classroom. The flexible schedule allowed us to travel for a full three weeks, and in that time we visited 6 different countries! Finland is not all that different from Canada - the people are friendly and happy to help you out. UEF has a very large European exchange program, so we have met people from all over Europe and learnt about their cultures and lifestyles. The school has a great program for making exchange students feel welcome and to help them set up their lives once they arrive. We are very happy we picked UEF and have memories we will never forget!"
