Get involved

Many students who live in residence have a positive and rewarding experience and want to give back or take on a leadership role in the residence community.

Find out how you can get involved and contribute your residence and to the University of New Brunswick (UNB), Fredericton campus.

Join a House Committee

House Committees are elected bodies of students who plan events for their respective houses. Committee members plan fun and inclusive house activities for their residence and offer leadership advice on house affairs. Please note: House Committees must submit a Student Events Application for approval prior to the event.

House Committee leaders are role models and must abide by the following ethics:

  • maintaining and agreeing upon a high code of standards for the House Committee and the house as a whole
  • respecting the integrity and protecting the physical and emotional welfare of house residents
  • respecting the convictions and values of the house
  • handling house dues and house revenue with integrity

For more information on how to get involved, contact your Residence Life Coordinator (RLC).

Join a House Orientation Committee

Each September, UNB welcomes a great many new students to our Fredericton campus. In order to ease their transition to university life and to provide new students with a warm welcome, an extensive Orientation Program is developed and implemented by Academic Faculties, the Residence Community and the UNB Student Union (under the general advisement of the Strategic Orientation Action Committee and UNB Student Services). House Orientation Committees (HOCs) are an important part of this process.  House Orientation Committees are comprised of volunteers who will be returning to live in residence.  The HOC works with the incoming House Committee and House Team to develop and implement their residence specific Orientation Program.  House Orientation Committee selection coincides with residence House Committee elections (February-March), although you do not need to be a member of the House Committee to apply.  HOC leaders are selected in early March and must attend mandatory training events held in mid-March and in the days prior to Fall Orientation.

If you would like more information on applying to be a House Orientation Committee leader, please speak with your House Committee President, the RLC assigned to your residence community, or email
