August 31

8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. - Student Union Building (SUB) Cafeteria

Check-in Day 

  • Welcome, all new students, to the best camp and beach experience you’ve ever had!
  • Look for the famous Freddy Beach tiki-hut in the SUB Cafeteria to get your Orientation Week Kit!
  • Don’t forget to collect residence keys before moving in; or, if you live off campus, sign up for TownHouse – your on-campus experience for off-campus living!

11:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m. - McConnell Dining Hall


  • Parents and students are invited to McConnell Hall (cash, credit, debit or meal plan only).

TownHouse Gathers for Commencement

  • Heading to events together is a TownHouse tradition – join us to travel to Commencement as a group.

3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. - Richard J. CURRIE CENTER


  • Each year, new students are celebrated and welcomed to UNB during the Commencement ceremony – an important tradition that inducts students into academia and UNB’s culture and community.
  • Hosted by Dr. Paul Mazerolle, UNB President and Vice-Chancellor, the ceremony highlights the university’s vision and values and serves as a chance to welcome you, our newest students, to the UNB family.
  • Commencement and graduation act as bookends to your academic journey; rituals to remember long after your time on campus when you move forward into the world as UNB alumni.

TownHouse Event: Blast-off Supper & Prep

  • After Commencement, TownHouse members are invited to the Toole Hall Patio to share supper, mingle, learn the TownHouse cheers, and most importantly get HYPED UP! As one of UNB’s largest houses, we’re aiming to bring the house down. 
  • Rain location: Student Union Building (SUB) Ballroom.

8:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. - SUB Quad in front of the Student Union Building

UNBSU Presents: Beach Blast-Off!

  • Bring your loudest, proudest and most intense cheering voices! The official kick-off to Orientation Week with lots of cheering, cranked up tunes and a performance to cap it all off! Guaranteed to be one of the most memorable moments of your university career.
  • Rain location: Student Union Building (SUB) Cafeteria

Beach Blast Dance

  • Dim the lights, turn up the noise and dance the night away in our sand-filled tent. We couldn’t take you to the beach, so we’re bringing the beach to you!

Kick Back Night

  • Get ready for the best games night you’ve yet to experience! Drop by for some video game competitions, board games, card games and so much more!

  • There is no better way to start another spectacular day in Freddy Beach than a hearty breakfast with all your TownHouse pals. Make sure to fuel up for a day of exciting O-Week events!

TownHouse Event: Amazing Race & BBQ

  • Come up to the SUB Ballroom to be put into your Amazing Race team. Clues are scattered throughout key spots on campus to help familiarize you with UNB. Meet back in the Quad afterward for prizes and a well-deserved barbecue.

  • Join us for dinner at the Student Union Building cafeteria to get spiffed up, mingle and enjoy some great food with new Townhouse pals! At the end of the evening, Townhouse executive leaders will hold the first house meeting and outline the illustrious six pillars of Townhouse.

UNBSU Presents: Casino Night

  • Grab your best outfit and dress to the nines because we have found our very own Vegas Casino! This is guaranteed to be one of the best Casino Nights that you have ever attended! Gamble all you want without losing a dime. Receive fake money upon entrance and you’ll be able to bet on any game of your choice. Casino games aren’t your favourite? That’s okay; we have games for everyone. At the end of the night, use your winnings and bid on major prizes.

City of Fredericton and the UNBSU Hosts: Bridging Freddy Beach featuring City Of Fredericton Welcome BBQ

  • Join in as the whole city welcomes you to Fredericton at the Freddy Beach Welcome BBQ!
  • We will be leaving from the SUB Quad in front of the Student Union Building at 5 p.m. sharp.
  • Explore Fredericton and choose your adventure. Choose between local art, yoga, rock climbing, an incredible performance by drag queen extraordinaire, Eureka O’Hara, and so much more. Explore your new home with some upper-year students who know their way around!

9 p.m. - 11 p.m. - Student Union Building (SUB) Quad

Movie Night

  • Come on back to campus after a day adventuring around Fredericton to meet up with your friends, eat some popcorn and enjoy a film.

UNBSU Presents: Camp ‘Fire’ Night

  • Come and celebrate your first few days of classes at a relaxed camp ‘fire’ setting. Get a group together and compete in some fun lawn games, hang out by our ‘fire’ or build some fun DIY room decorations!

September 7

8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. - throughout the city of Fredericton


  • Shinerama is the largest post-secondary school fundraiser in Canada and has been a University of New Brunswick tradition since 1973. For the last 46 years, UNB gathers together on the last day of Orientation Week to collect donations from car washes, going door-to-door and BBQs across Fredericton.
  • These donations go to Cystic Fibrosis Canada to support research and care programs for those who live with cystic fibrosis. 
  • Cystic fibrosis is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting young Canadians today. There is no cure. This disease infects the digestive system and lungs, along with other parts of the body. With over 2000 different strands of the illness, the degree varies from person to person, however, the persistence and ongoing infection impacts the individual for their entire life.
  • Starting out the day with a free breakfast and coffee and later enjoying a free enjoying a free pizza lunch is all the more reason to come out to Shinerama. Bring a bunch of friends and have an awesome day out in the sun while connecting with the community.

Ice Cream with Friends

  • Come and celebrate the success of Shinerama in the SUB Quad. Qmunity, Vegan & Vegetarian Society and many other student-led groups on campus will be providing free ice-cold treats and other snacks for everyone to enjoy. Stop by to play some games, make new friends in groups you relate to and learn how you can get involved throughout the school year. All are welcome!

7:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. - SUB Quad in front of the Student Union Building

Orientation: Finale

  • Come on back to the Quad in your house groups to bring Orientation Week full circle and find out who has won the Orientation Cup. Bring all the energy you have in a final push to show your UNB pride.
