Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering (BSSWE) Orientation

Software Engineering is a joint program offered by the Faculty of Computer Science and the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering. So, it is important that you become acquainted with both Faculties during Orientation. This schedule will guide you through the Faculty Orientation events that we have planned.

Monday, Sept. 2

4:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. - Head Hall room C13 (Dineen Auditorium)

Undergraduate Orientation Launch Party

  • The Dean’s Address
  • Introduction of CS House Leaders (Peer Mentors)
  • Sorting Ceremony for our CS Houses
  • 2019-2020 CS House Cup Kick-off
  • Pizza Supper* (FREE; provided by the Faculty)
  • "House Feud" (House Cup Challenge Event) for new students & House Leaders
  • Distribution of CS T-shirts

Tuesday, Sept. 3

8:30 a.m. - Gillin Hall (Wing), room C127 (Gujar Room)

Morning Check-In

  • Distribution of CS bandanas & sunglasses

8:45 a.m. - The Computer Science ITC Courtyard

  • Group Photo (weather permitting)

9 a.m. - various locations in and around the Computer Science Information Technology Centre & Gillin Hall

11th Annual CS Olympics

  • House Cup Challenge Event. Just follow your Peer Mentor!

Noon - location provided at morning check-in

Pancake Brunch*

  • Free! Served by faculty, staff and the CSA.
  • Go to GW-C127 if you are unsure of the location

*If you have any dietary restrictions, please email by the end of the day on August 28th so that we have sufficient time to make appropriate arrangements.

12:45 pm (approx.) - Head Hall Patio

Connecting with your peers in the Faculty of Engineering

  • (a Faculty of Computer Science Peer Mentor will escort you to the Head Hall Patio to connect with the Faculty of Engineering group).

1 p.m. - 4 p.m. - Head Hall

Engineering Carnival/Get to Know Engineering

  • First-year engineering master class
  • Get to know the engineering societies and groups
  • Prove your UNB knowhow with professors

After the Engineering events conclude for the day, you are invited to re-join the Computer Science group.

4 p.m. - The Computer Science ITC Courtyard

Ice Cream Social*

  • Free ice cream & popsicles. Provided by the Faculty

4:30 - 6 p.m.

Dinner and Free Time

  • There is no scheduled group dinner today for CS. Feel free to have dinner when & where you’d like; if you want some suggestions, just ask a peer mentor.

6 p.m. - The Computer Science ITC building rooms IT-D405, IT-D407 & nearby hallway seating (booths)

Gaming Event

  • Come hang out and play board games & card games. This low-key activity will be led by the Computer Science Association (a.k.a. the “CSA”, our undergraduate student society)
  • Peer mentors will also be on hand to join in the gaming fun and/or to take you around to find your classrooms/labs (if you'd like to do that).
