Recycling & Waste Management Services
Did you Know?
Did you know that if just five UNB staff /faculty or students recycled their paper waste, in one year they would save 19 trees, 3 cubic meters of landfill, 4000 kilowatt hours of energy, 29,000 litres of water and 30kg of air pollution effluent!
Drop it in the Bin!
Facilities Management is responsible for coordinating the recycling program on the Fredericton campus. We have partnered with the Fredericton Regional Solid Waste Commission (FRSWC) and stepped up our commitment to being a greener campus by placing more multi-product recycling stations throughout the campus in convenient and accessible locations.
Paper Recycling
All offices should have a personal designated recycling box for recycling paper. If you do not presently have one please contact our Work Control Centre. These boxes will be emptied by the cleaning staff weekly and transferred to a Blue Bin for pick up by the FRSWC every Wednesday.
Cans & Bottles
Faculty, Staff and Students are encouraged to collect refundable bottles for fund raisers, charity and other ventures.
Cardboard
Most large volume facilities have designated collection areas but those who have lower volumes are encouraged to break down boxes and deposit them into the Blue Bins. Special cardboard pickups can be arranged if unusually large volumes are generated.
Scrap Metals
Facilities Management in accordance with its goal for greater recycling is reducing landfill deposits and costs by directing scrap metal to recycling agents.
Landfill Waste
Regular waste is removed by a contractor who services dumpsters and garbage rooms throughout the campus. These dumpsters and rooms are filled with material collected by our cleaning service staff from smaller exterior waste receptacles on campus. We request that you recycle at every opportunity in order to reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfill. Please do not place cardboard or other recyclable items in exterior waste dumpsters.
Specialized Wastes
Special wastes, such as radioactive or hazardous materials must be handled separately. Please contact our Work Control Centre.
