Technology Management & Entrepreneurship (TME)

What do Industry Canada and StartUp Canada have in common? They both agree that UNB is the place to be for entrepreneurship education.

Why UNB? A recent Industry Canada report (p 26) ranked UNB number one in Teaching and Learning, among all Canadian higher education institutions that support entrepreneurship education. In 2014, StartUp Canada recognized UNB with the Most Entrepreneurial Post Secondary Institution of the Year award.

Why TME at the J Herbert Smith Centre? The Telegraph Journal recently called the Centre's Chair, Dr. Shukla, "a shining example to all in the startup world." And our instructors and mentors are second to none. Check out some of our testimonials if you need any more convincing. Or feel free to contact us to ask questions, or set up a meeting.

While our program is called Technology Management and Entrepreneurship, these are not words you should get hung up on. What we’re really all about is giving you the skillset to help you succeed, no matter what path you may follow: critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication. These are the skills employers are looking for and the skills that will help you blaze your own trail in life.

You’ll learn problem finding, ideation, and problem solving skills; how to work as part of a team, and how to effectively communicate your ideas in a real world setting. Most of our courses are experiential in nature, that is, you learn by doing more than by reading or listening to lectures. We’ll guide you in solving problems, help you create opportunities, and mentor you to pursue them. You’ll experience working as part of a team, develop a solid plan, and apply basic financial and organizational principles to effectively communicate in a ’real world’ setting.

A broad range of skills are essential for success in today’s careers. In the TME program, you will gain valuable project and quality management skills that will give you a significant competitive advantage in your workplace and throughout your career. You’ll learn everything from how to finance a project and market it, to how to control risks and meet goals. You’ll have the opportunity to apply what you have learned to your own innovation idea, whether that idea is profit-focused, socially oriented, or not-for-profit. You’ll also have the opportunity to work with some of the most innovative leaders and entrepreneurs in our region through our guest lectures, lunch and learns, and our innovation/business pitch competitions. Several of our graduates who have nurtured their ideas in our program have gone on to launch their own highly successful ventures.
