Atlantic Provinces Linguistic Association

The Atlantic Provinces Linguistic Association (APLA) was founded in 1977 to promote the study of languages and linguistics in Eastern Canada and was recognized in 1992 as a national organization by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. The Association hosts an annual conference each fall at a centre of higher education in the area . Topics cover all areas of linguistics. In 2016 the conference took place at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax and in 2017 it was hosted by Cape Breton University in Sydney, Nova Scotia. The site for the 2018 conference will be Dalhousie University, Halifax, while the 2019 conference will be held at the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton Campus. The Association's journal, Linguistica Atlantica, is published annually and can found online at
