Cathy is the Director of the Muriel McQueen Fergusson Centre for Family Violence Research (MMFC). She is the academic co-chair of the Religion and Violence as well as the Violence against Immigrant and Visible Minority Women research teams at the Centre. Her research focuses on gender and religion, domestic violence, immigrant women, and social action.

She is a co-investigator with the Canadian research team on the project Violence Against Women Migrants and Refugees: Analyzing Causes and Effective Policy Response and represents the MMFC on the New Brunswick Roundtable on Crime and Public Safety. Cathy utilizes both quantitative and qualitative methods in her research. She has taught undergraduate courses for over twenty years and teaches an online course in the Family Violence Issues Certificate Program.
