Maria received her BA from St. Thomas University in 1977 and her LLB from the University of New Brunswick in 1980. She was admitted to the Newfoundland bar in 1981 and the New Brunswick bar in 1989. Maria received her appointment as Queen’s Counsel in 2004.

Maria has extensive trial and administrative law experience. She has appeared before the Courts at all levels in Atlantic Canada, as well as the Supreme Court of Canada and numerous administrative tribunals.

Her affiliations include membership in the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of New Brunswick, the Saint John Law Society, and the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador. Maria is also a former President of the New Brunswick Law Society.
