François joined UNB in 2005 as a contract instructor while completing his Master of Laws at Osgoode Hall Law School. He holds a BBA (U de M), LLB (U de M), LLM (Osgoode Hall) was called to the NB bar in 1998.

He held a senior management position in a family-owned business in Edmundston, New Brunswick for a period of six years prior to receiving his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1997, at which time he joined the law firm Clark Drummie. He spent the following nine years conducting a general practice in the areas of criminal prosecutions, insurance, commercial and family litigations, real estate, medical malpractices and as an interest-based negotiation trainer and facilitator. François spent seven years as a solicitor for The City of Saint John conducting a practice in contract and public procurement law, public-private partnerships and bylaw-enforcement prosecutions. He is currently the Chairperson and CEO of the New Brunswick Energy and Utilities Board.

Courses taught

Since 2005, François teaches negotiations at the Faculty and also teaches occasionally the same course at the Faculté de droit at the Université de Moncton. In 2010, he redesigned the negotiation module for the New Brunswick Law Society Bar Admission Course and has been an instructor for the Law Society since 2000.

Community Engagement

François is a former Vice-President of the Edmundston Chamber of Commerce, has served on the Board of Directors of Family Services Saint John Inc. and the Association Régionale de la Communauté francophone de Saint-Jean inc., which he chaired for a number of years. He is past Chair of the Citizens Advisory Group for Saint John’s Vision 2015 Program of Excellence, served on the organizing committee for the Jeux de l’Acadie of

2010 and was Co-Chair of Celebrations 1604-2004 in Saint John. He also served on the Board of Directors of Horizon Health Network. He is past Chair of Canada's Energy and Utility Regulators (CAMPUT).
