Abstract:  Due to the baby boom in the 1950’s, decreasing birth rate after the baby boom and long-run decreasing mortality rates, the cohort size of each age group around the world has changed considerably during the past three decades. Previous studies have explored the effects of cohort size on labor force participation in the United States and found that the relationship between cohort size and labor force participation is positive for men and negative for women. This MA report uses long panel data set to examine the relationship between cohort size and labor force participation from 1983 to 2015 in Canada. Results show that cohort size has effects on the labor force participation for some cohorts. Moreover, our findings suggest that the effects of the cohort size change over time.
