COVID-19 update

Sept. 23, 2021

The new regulations announced by the provincial government are effective as of Sept. 22, 2021.

What this means for UNB operations

We continue to work with New Brunswick Public Health and the department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour. We acknowledge that we do not have all the answers at this time, we are committed to providing you more information as it becomes available.

Proof of vaccination

Proof of vaccination and government issued identification are required to access any services and businesses deemed non-essential. At this time, there are no changes to classroom management.

To access some spaces and events on campus, you must provide proof that you are fully vaccinated with an approved Health Canada vaccine. You are considered fully vaccinated fourteen (14) days after you receive your final dose of the approved vaccine.

You are NOT required to show proof of vaccination to attend or access:

  • Classes, lectures, and labs required for your course or program outcomes.
  • Students must follow the guidelines in effect at clinical and practicum placements.
  • Libraries, Hans O. Klohn Commons, meal halls, cafes and cafeterias on campus.
  • Entrance to the Student Union Building.

You ARE required to show proof of vaccination and government issued identification to access the following spaces and events on campus:

  • Some retail spaces and food vendors on campus.
  • Indoor festivals, performing arts and sporting events.
  • Indoor and outdoor dining and drinking at restaurants, pubs and bars, including The Cellar, Grad Club, and Whitebone Pizzeria.
  • Indoor gyms, pools, and recreation and exercise facilities.
  • Indoor gatherings including guest lectures, town halls, and workshops, etc.
  • Indoor special events, grand openings and conferences.
  • Indoor organized group recreational sports, classes and activities.

Proof of vaccination may be provided by showing:

  • MyHealthNB record
  • Photo or copy of an immunization record
  • Proof of vaccination from another jurisdiction
  • Medical exemption certificate
  • Proof of vaccination status provided through the UNBSafe app for on campus events and activities. A photo will not be accepted.

Valid identification includes:

  • Driver's license
  • Birth certificate
  • Canadian military identification card
  • Government-issued identification card
  • Medicare or another provincial health card
  • Canadian permanent resident card
  • UNB-issued identification will be accepted for on campus events and activities.

If you are not fully vaccinated, access to spaces on campus will be limited without proof of vaccination. You may attend classes, lectures, and labs required for your course or program outcomes if you are enrolled in the COVID testing program.

Face mask policy

The current face mask policy applies to all faculty, staff and students regardless of your vaccination status.

Travel and isolation

If you are travelling from outside of New Brunswick, you are required to pre-register your travel through the New Brunswick Travel Registration Program. This includes New Brunswickers returning to the province.

  • If you are fully vaccinated, you are not required to self-isolate. Vaccinated individuals will register one time and receive a multi-use pass for travel into New Brunswick.
  • If you are not fully vaccinated, you must self-isolate for 14 days or until you receive a negative COVID-19 result from a PCR test taken on Day 10 or later. Unvaccinated individuals will be required to register for each trip into the province.

We will continue to communicate any specific requirements for changes to our operations as information becomes available.
