COVID-19 update

Jan. 13, 2022

Effective Friday, Jan. 14 at 11:59 p.m., the province of New Brunswick will move to Level 3 in the COVID Alert System.

UNB will take a transitional approach to the winter term that will allow us to assess the ongoing concern of the Omicron variant and limit the activities and gathering on our campuses.

The epidemiology of COVID-19 in the province is dynamic and requires us to be responsive to changes that impact the health and safety of our province including the delivery of health care and other services.

Following the guidance of Public Health and to assist our province in managing the impacts of the current outbreak, we are implementing the following changes at UNB:

Academic

  • Only courses that must be delivered in-person to meet course outcomes will resume in-person classes on Monday, Jan. 24.
  • All other courses will continue to be offered remotely and will transition to in-person instruction on Monday, Feb. 7.
  • Instructors will notify students when their courses are expected to begin in person.

Campus operations

  • UNB campuses are open and operating in-person following strict Public Health guidelines. Social events are suspended until further notice.
  • Residences are open for all residence students. Before planning your return, please wait until you have received further communication from the residence offices.
  • Faculty and staff who can effectively work from home may continue working remotely until Feb. 7 with approval from your supervisor.

Although our goal is to return to in-person activities and experiences, our priority is to protect the health and safety of students and employees while mitigating the risks of spreading the COVID-19 virus and protecting the health care system.

We continue to work closely with Public Health and we will keep students, faculty and staff apprised of any changes as we navigate the next weeks of the pandemic.

We appreciate your patience, flexibility and understanding throughout this challenging time. We look forward to seeing you back on campus soon.

With kind regards,

Paul J. Mazerolle
President and Vice-Chancellor
