COVID-19 community update

August 12, 2021

With just over four weeks until classes begin, this is a crucial time for us to continue to build our level of protection against COVID-19 for Fall 2021.

You can make a difference. Every vaccination counts to adding a layer of protection to help keep our community safe.

Why vaccination is important

  • Unvaccinated individuals carry a greater risk of contracting COVID-19 and experiencing more severe symptoms than those who are vaccinated.
  • It takes about two weeks after the second dose for the body to build immunity after vaccination.
  • The first dose primes your immune response so your body learns to make antibodies to fight COVID-19. The second dose boosts your immune response for a stronger and longer-lasting immunity. Both doses are needed to provide full immunity.
  • As of August 11, only 52 per cent of New Brunswickers aged 20-29 have received their second dose.
  • Since July 1, 88 per cent of the confirmed cases in New Brunswick were not fully vaccinated.

Get vaccinated

Vaccines help protect you and the people around you. The more people who are immunized against COVID-19, the harder it is for the virus to spread.

  • Book your vaccine appointment through Horizon or Vitalité clinics or participating pharmacies.
  • UNB Fredericton is currently offering weekly vaccination clinics for first and second doses of Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines.

Let’s all do our part. Roll up our sleeves and get fully vaccinated.
