Assessment For Learning

During April, 2014, Canada is preparing to welcome international delegates from around the world for their Fifth International Symposium on Classroom Assessment. Each country team determines the process for selecting delegates and this is the first time it has been held in Canada. In order to take advantage of this opportunity we are offering the following two activities:

Canadian Symposium on Classroom Assessment and Assessment for Learning
Tuesday, April 8 (eve) to Saturday, April 12 (all day), 2014

This 2014 symposium will gather representatives from each province and territory (Ministry or Department of Education and Superintendent Associations). Fewer than 40 people will gather and enter into thoughtful, planned dialogue focused on learning more about assessment in the service of learning and making plans for future action. You can find out more about the planned agenda at the assessment for learning website. The symposium registration fee includes 3.5 days in dialogue with colleagues (both Canadian and International) and 1.5 days in conference called Assessment for Learning: Canada in Conversation With The World with a larger group of approximately 250 people.

Registration for the first three days is limited and only available by invitation. Selection will be made to ensure representation from Canadian provinces and territories. Successful applicants will be notified by email and have 48 hours to register and pay the conference fees. Registration fee is $695.00 per participant. Events for this symposium will be held at the Delta Fredericton. Lunches will be provided. All other costs will be borne by participants.

Assessment for Learning: Canada in Conversation With The World
Friday, April 11 (eve) and Saturday, April 12 (all day)

Classroom assessment research has shown that when assessment is used in the service of learning, it can make the “greatest impact on student learning and achievement ever documented.” More and more educators want the promise of these research findings to be a reality for all learners. Come join us and learn how we can achieve these research findings for your learners, your school, and your school system.

On Friday, April 11, 2014 (eve) and Saturday, April 12, 2014, 300 educators will join more than 30 international delegates for a most amazing conference. The conference includes three plenary sessions (simultaneous translation) and more than six concurrent sessions. Canadians will be invited to be in conversation with each other and with the International delegates.  Registration is limited so regional representation is possible.

Selections will be made to ensure representation from all Canadian regions. Registration fee is $250.00 per participant. New Brunswick registrations have a discounted fee of $175.00 with thanks to support from the New Brunswick Department of Education. Fee includes access to the Canadian Conference sessions Friday, April 11 (eve), and Saturday, April 12 (all day), 2014. It also includes coffee, one lunch, and free parking. All other costs are borne by participants. All conference events will be held at the University of New Brunswick.
