Whiskey Appreciation

Explore the world of whiskey in this special evening event with whiskey connoisseur, Johanne McInnis. Learn about every aspect of whiskey, such as its production process, maturation, flavour profiles, varieties (i.e. bourbon vs scotch), and regulations, all while tasting (nosing) Canadian, American, Irish, Scotch, Japanese and "world" whiskies.

You’ll end the evening, as a more knowledgeable whiskey drinker, but you’ll also leave with a tasting mat and a tasting wheel. Cheers!

Note: Participants must be at least 19 years of age, and arrange for a drive or take a taxi after the workshop.

About the instructor

Johanne McInnis has a chemical engineering technology certification in water treatment/distillation and is a retired whisky judge, who has been presenting master classes since 2007 at festivals across Canada. She has also presented at the world-renowned Spirit of Speyside in Scotland on several occasions and consulted for a few start-up distilleries, such as Stalk & Barrel in Toronto and Fils du Roy in Paquetville, N.B. As well, Johanne has also been an independent spirits writer for many magazines, such as Cask & Still, Whisky Magazine, Whisky Quarterly, Taps and Saltscapes, plus newspapers such as The Chronicle Herald in Halifax. Her favourite pastime in the last few years, has been presenting with some of the best chefs in Canada at the Devour Food and Film Festival in Wolfville Nova Scotia and their satellite in St. Andrews. Johanne says she simply loves her job! It’s not hard to see why!
