Exploring Poetry

Explore your thoughts and experiences in this introductory poetry course.

Words can inspire us and shatter us, comfort and enthuse us. In fact, words can empower us! When you release your emotions from pen to paper, events tend to become less overwhelming and more enlightening.

This 8-week poetry course is an opportunity to focus on writing free verse, while learning about less common forms of poetry and examining a few published works. An array of writing prompts and introspective activities will be provided. Come join other poetry enthusiasts in this comfortable, relaxing and creative environment (sharing your writing will be always be optional).

No materials required.

About the instructor

Barb Buckley has spent the greater part of her career as an educator, specializing in the area of enrichment. As an Enrichment Coordinator/Supervisor for the former School District 18, she created and implemented over 20 enrichment programs for classroom teachers and gifted and talented learners. Several programs focused on writing, the arts and developing and enhancing creativity.

Teaching elementary students to write and produce original Shakespearean plays, earned her The Hilroy Fellowship Award for Innovative Teaching. Her work received recognition provincially as a recipient of the Premier's Award for Excellence in Teaching and creating a Passion for Learning. Currently, Barb continues to work with both students and adults interested in creative writing and teaching an enrichment model to teachers and administrators working toward their Master's degree.
