The University of New Brunswick Fredericton is seeking applications for the position of Instructional Designer with the College of Extended Learning. This is a 3 year term full-time (36.25 hours per week) position with the PTSU employee group. The position is funded by the University Budget with a salary range of $45,979 - $59,777 per annum.
The UNB College of Extended Learning is the primary lifelong learning outreach vehicle for the University and carries critical community-building and revenue-generation functions. The Instructional Designer (ID) reports directly to the Lead Instructional Designer and serves as an expert in on-line education, technology, pedagogy, and evidence-based teaching and learning strategies. Must have the ability to play a leadership role as well as work constructively/collaboratively in a team environment.
Position summary:
- Advocate for innovative instructional design solutions.
- Determine instructional strategies for the project goal, scope and learning objectives.
- Develop courses within the institution's designated Learning Management System (LMS).
- Consult with the e-Learning team to develop solutions for academic programs.
- Collaborate with clients and the on-line learning community to resolve issues related to technology use in teaching.
- Coordinate the development of program or course development projects.
- Partner with business leaders, subject matter experts and development team to transfer business objectives into effective instructional content.
- Work in a team environment with faculty, instructors, and staff and develop course components.
- Ensure quality for on-line course projects, work within time and budget constraints.
- Act as the point of contact for issues related to courses in assigned programs.
- Provide guidance to instructors on effective technical use of the on-line learning environment.
- Liaise with and advise academic and business units with respect to technology-enabled learning.
- Provide guidance to instructors on copyright policies and participate, as needed, in regularly scheduled program reviews.
- Assume responsibility for adherence to establish course development standards and style guidelines.
- Provide a quality review on project deliverables; Evaluate the instructional effectiveness of courses and programs.
Requirements/Skills:
- Undergraduate degree in educational or instructional technology, instructional design, computer science, curricula and instruction, adult education or related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum 5-years' related experience in instructional design, educational technology, training, pedagogy, or curriculum development in an educational setting.
- Minimum 5-years' experience in content or technical writing, communications and in creating learning experiences in a variety of formats for adult learners. Minimum 3-years' experience managing e-learning projects.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and visual communication skills to bring together text, images, video and audio.
- Well versed in ID methodologies, production oriented and possess a strong eye for visual design.
- Knowledgeable in instructional systems design methodology, rapid design/development methodologies, adult learning theory, research methodology and assessment tools.
- Ability to break down complex, technical process into simple, logical steps.
- Must be comfortable in a fast pace, deadline-driven environment and able to manage multiple priorities well.
- Must be able to provide a portfolio that illustrates an individual contribution to instructional practices of learning.
