The University of New Brunswick Fredericton welcomes applications for the position of Career Services Officer with the Faculty of Law. This is a term until April 2021(leave replacement), full-time (36.25 hours per week) position with the APT employee group. The position is funded by the University Budget with a salary range of $45,504 - $59,111 per annum.
Reporting to the Associate Dean, the Career Services officer is responsible for planning, coordinating and delivering effective career services and programs to assist UNB Law students in securing placement during law school and after graduation, including articling, clerkships and graduate studies. The Career Services Officer helps promote UNB Law as a source of highly qualified applicants to the legal community.
Position summary:
- Provide leadership, information and advice to students regarding job search strategies, recruitment processes and labour market trends.
- Provide or facilitate one-on-one career counseling and advising to law students.
- Develop and deliver skills-based workshops for students on topics such as career options, job search strategies, interviewing, application preparation, professionalism, and personal finances.
- Plan and organize career-related special events such as On-Campus Interviews (OCIs), employer round tables, career fairs, networking events and information sessions about clerkships and graduate studies.
- Prepare career-related written materials and resources for law students, including researching content, writing and editing copy, and overseeing design and publication.
- Expand the number and type of employment opportunities for UNB Law students by identifying and developing relationships with potential employers locally, nationally, and internationally and by maintaining effective relationships with current and past employers.
- Maintain current, comprehensive and accessible information for career information and about bar admission for each Canadian jurisdiction as well as select international jurisdictions.
- Develop effective means of communicating career-related information to students.
- Provide on-site supervision of Pro Bono Students Canada (PBSC) UNB Chapter.
- Liaise with admissions directors and staff of Canadian law societies.
- Perform other career services activities as required.
Requirements/Skills:
- Bachelor of Law degree (LLB, JD or BCL) accompanied by one to three years? work experience in an intensive, fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, in order to deal with faculty, staff, students, lawyers and the general public in an effective and courteous manner. Ability to exercise discretion, diplomacy and tact.
- Capacity to work effectively and efficiently as a member of a team of professionals with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational and administrative ability and knowledge of the legal community, coupled with the capability to adapt to evolving priorities.
- Ability to work flexible hours if necessary.
