The University of New Brunswick Fredericton welcomes applications for the position of Communications Officer with the Muriel McQueen Fergusson Centre. This is a term full-time (36.25 hours per week) position until April 1, 2022 with the PTSU employee group. The position is funded by the University Budget with a salary range of $37,304 - $46,631 per annum.
The Muriel McQueen Fergusson Centre for Family Violence Research (MMFC) is affiliated with the Faculty of Arts at UNB Fredericton and is jointly supported by UNB and the Fergusson Foundation (FF). The MMFC fosters collaborative, action-oriented research on the problem of family violence and violence against women. The Office of Human Rights and Positive Environment (HRPEO) promotes positive, inclusive and diverse working and learning experiences at UNB.? The Communications Officer will lead the development and implementation of a joint communications strategy for the MMFC, HRPEO and FF based on the priorities of their existing communications strategies.
Position summary:
- Coordinate the implementation of the joint MMFC, HRPEO and FF joint communications strategy.
- Create and manage communications plans defining audiences, key messages, success indicators, tactics, and measurement strategies for internal and external audiences for promotional purposes
- Conduct interviews and fact-checking. Write articles, reports, press releases, media advisories, web content, social media posts, etc.
- Coordinate and implement the production of annual reports, e-newsletters, and edit website content.
- Distribute communications to relevant audiences. Track the dissemination of all communications materials and their impact.
- Coordinate media relations with UNB Communications, UNB faculty and staff, journalists, as well as community, government, businesses and regional universities.
- Attend relevant meetings/events of the MMFC, HRPEO and FF as well as the UNB Communications and Marketing group.
- Supervise the communications-related activities of students who work or conduct research for the MMFC, HRPEO and FF.
Requirements/Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.
- Minimum of two years' experience in the communications field.
- Strong computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office software and Adobe InDesign. ?
- Knowledge of family violence, human rights, diversity, equality, equality and inclusion are an asset.
- Experience in donor development and donor relations is an asset.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
