The University of New Brunswick welcomes applications for the position of Communications Officer with the Communications Office. One position will be a full-time (36.25 hours per week) one-year term, and one position will be full-time (36.25 hours per week) continuing position. These positions are funded by the University Budget with a salary range of $46,356 - $60,261 per annum.
Reporting to UNB's Director of Communications, the Communications Officer is a communications professional responsible for contributing to UNB's positive reputation by: developing and implementing communication strategies and plans; managing events and playing a role in issues and crisis management. In this position, strong persuasive writing skills are a must as this position will be responsible for content creation on multiple platforms. The position will build on your already strong and well-rounded critical thinking skills, background in communications planning, issues management, media relations, events planning, project management and communications consulting. Candidates must have above average writing skills and an ability to work independently, to work effectively as part of a professional team, and to manage multiple priorities.
Position summary:
- Support the corporate communications office in the development of written materials for various university-wide projects or initiatives including, but not limited to: news releases, media advisories, speeches, web copy, talking points, presentations, and various materials.
- Develop and deliver communication plans that achieve measurable objectives and position UNB positively among its internal and external shareholders.
- Tell compelling stories of UNB through effective use of writing and visuals.
- Lead the planning and execution of events such as media events, town hall style meetings, staff recognition events, photo-ops and news conferences.
- Provide communications counsel to UNB leaders and colleagues, based on experience and knowledge of the internal and external environment.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements/Skills:
- University degree, preferable in communications, public relations or related discipline or an acceptable combination of education & experience.
- Five to seven years' professional experience in a communications, public relations, or media relations role.
- Proven ability to develop, implement, execute and measure strategic communications plans.
- An excellent storyteller and writer, with excellent editorial, proofreading and verbal communications skills.
- Superior writing skills. Established experience in speech writing, copy editing and preparing presentation materials, with demonstrated experience in reviewing, editing, fact-check and proofreading internal and external materials according to CP style guidelines.
- Must be detail-oriented with good organizational skills, highly motivated and self-directed with ability to advance multiple concurrent projects.
