Operations Research - OR is a term coined during World War II to describe analysis of the effectiveness of various alternative plans, strategies, technologies and techniques of wartime operations against the enemy. Subsequent to WWII the techniques are applied to many civilian as well as military activities. Management Science is a more modern term that suggests a broader use of analytical and computing techniques applied to management situations. Much of what was included in Industrial Engineering is included.
