then key [Enter] to select from a MENU. Or you may select by using the first
character on a MENU line.
- Beginners should start with the STEPS menu.
- Become familiar with NOTAX.
- NOTAX prompts for the required information in a logical order. NOTAX will
deal with problems that ask for Present and Future Values, Unknown Interest
Rates, Equivalent Uniform series (Annuities), Break-even, Pay back and other
unknown numbers of periods types of problems.
- Use TAXABLE
for problems that include income tax considerations.
The suggestions below apply to the use of MENU procedures:

SELECT a procedure by moving the cursor to the one you want, then key [Enter]
and follow the prompts. Try NOTAX to become familiar with the system.

FOLLOW THE PROMPTS so that your work will be saved. Answers and Data are
saved in the LOG. There is a copy of LOG in the workspace and one in the
file LOG.ASF on drive A (drive 0 in APL). You can selectively erase either.
Be careful. Use: STARTLG to start a new log, etc. Use: EDITLOG to use full
screen editor on both the workspace and disk LOGs.

The ANSWER (decision) variable, when requested, selects the internal procedure.
A procedure can be halted where shown by keying [Esc]; it can then be restarted
by moving the cursor to a restart message, then key [Enter].

Determine the value flows; i.e., the Receipts (R) and Disbursements (D),
etc. at the end of each accounting period to the end of the life of the
item.

Determine the other knowns. Follow all prompts carefully!

Use [Esc] key to exit a function during input. [Ctrl Esc] will exit a fn
if you are running in DOS alone, but in WINDOWS [Ctrl Esc] will go to DESKTOP.

Make a copy of the LOG of your work each time you end a session!!!!
Don't panic if something doesn't work, or you make a mistake.
Get into APL immediate execution, then use [F1], or [F12]
to return to the MENUS. Use [F6] 'qask' and enter the name of an
activity, function or file for HELP. Try again and if you are still in
trouble, seek help from another user.
