EPONYM

An EPONYM is the name of something derived from a person's name. There are many used in science. They are criticized because they are not descriptive. E.g. when the name of frequency was changed from cycles per second to Hertz and the SI definition of force from a common use term like kilograms or pounds to Newtons. These changes make dimensional analysis more difficult because the eponyms must first be translated to more fundamental units, the analysis performed, and then the result retranslated to the correct eponym if one exists.
