APLI: |IDIOM, APL, APL/PC & APL/II function directory, MYSYS file [1]

 Idioms are short APL expressions.  They are useful in their own right and are
handy for inclusion in other defined functions.  Idioms are characterized by
their frequency of occurrence, application-independence, power, & chunkability.

 In MYSYS many idioms are coded as short functions. This tends speedup coding
special applications, but may increase execution time.  For heavily used
functions it may be better to include idiom code directly in the fn code.
