You are warmly invited for hors d'oeuves and a glass of wine while viewing the STLHE poster presentations and helping us select the winner of the 2009 STLHE Pat Rogers Poster Prize.

The 2009 STLHE Conference will build on the success of last year’s innovative poster session, to make this year’s poster event even more exciting, interactive, informative, and fun.  Our aim, as last year, is to promote the importance of posters as opportunities to disseminate research results and to explore effective and innovative teaching and learning practices.

  • The poster session will be accompanied by a reception for all those attending the STLHE conference.
  • Articles with accompanying graphics based on posters will be eligible for submission to the annual journal Collected Essays on Learning and Teaching (CELT), a publication drawing largely from the work of conference presenters (also including workshops, concurrent sessions, and roundtables).
  • Presenters are being encouraged to provide innovative and imaginative displays that promote interactive engagement among posters, presenters, and participants.  Posters should incorporate and advance the ethos of active learning to which STLHE is committed.
  • To encourage innovative and effective poster presentations, all the 2009 posters will be eligible for an adjudicated poster competition.  The award criteria are as follows:

Conceptual Depth and Content
The poster demonstrates originality, substance, and depth, as well as a robust conceptual basis.

Clarity
The poster communicates its message effectively.  It avoids large amounts of difficult-to-read text and adopts innovative and visual approaches to communicating information.  The poster may incorporate supplemental electronic media, and presenters may provide more detailed explication in a handout.

Design
The poster’s visual design and use of images and diagrams effectively reinforce the themes and concepts explored.

Potential for Engagement
The poster demonstrates potential to inspire active learning, by fostering greater interaction between viewer and presenter.

Conference participants are invited to take part in the selection process by casting ballots for their favorite poster presentations during the Poster Fair and Reception to be held on Friday, June 19  Popular votes based on the criteria above will determine five finalists, from which the winners will be determined by the adjudication panel.

Awards for the winning posters will be presented at the Closing Plenary session on Saturday, June 20, with the top poster receiving the annual Pat Rogers Trophy.

Ballots for the poster competition are found in conference wallets.
