UNIVERSITY OF NEW BRUNSWICK Calendar of Academic Dates 2009-2010 NOTE: The dates shown below apply to undergraduate programs. They do not necessarily apply to the School of Graduate Studies, the Faculty of Law, or to Open Access courses offered through the College of Extended Learning. Students in other programs should consult the appropriate calendar or brochure.

	Friday	17	Last Day to opt out of International Health Insurance for Intersession or Summer Term.
August, 2009	Monday	03	New Brunswick Day. University Holiday - No classes *.
September, 2009	Wednesday	02	Residence open for new students
	Thursday - Friday	03-05	Academic Programming and Orientation.
	Monday	07	Labour Day. University Holiday - No classes *. Residence Open for continuing students.
	Tuesday	08	Start of Classes. Both Campuses. Last day for payment of appropriate University fees.
	Monday	21	Last day for adding Fall term and full-year courses. Fall term and full year courses dropped up to and including this date are not shown on the academic record.
	Friday	25	Last Day to opt-out of Student Union Health and Dental Plan. Last Day to opt-out of International Health Insurance.
October, 2009	Monday	12	Thanksgiving Day. University Holiday - No classes *.
	Thursday	22	Fall Convocation - UNB Fredericton.
	Friday	23	Fall Convocation - UNB Saint John. Last day to withdraw from Fall term courses with pro-rated refund. (see University Refund Policy).
November, 2009	Tuesday	03	Last day to withdraw from Fall term courses without academic penalty. (no refund) A grade of "W" (Withdrawn) will be shown on the academic record.
	Wednesday	11	Remembrance Day. University Holiday - No classes *.
	Monday	23	Last day in Fall term to hold class tests. (see Regulations on Examination, Standings and Promotion)
December, 2009	Monday	07	Last day of Fall Term classes.
	Tuesday	08	Reading Day
	Wednesday	09	Final examinations begin.
	Saturday	19	Final examinations end.
January, 2010	Friday	01	New Year's Day - University Holiday - No classes*.
	Tuesday	05	Start of classes for both campuses - Winter term.
	Friday	15	Last day for payment of Winter term fees for new students. Last day for payment of University fees for full-time students paying by installments.
	Monday	18	Last day for adding Winter term courses. Winter term courses dropped up to and including this date are not shown on the academic record. Last day to withdraw from full-year courses without academic penalty. A notation of "W" (Withdrawn) will be shown on the academic transcript.
	Friday	22	Last Day to opt-out of Student Union Health and Dental Plan for those students who enrolled in January 2010. Last Day to opt-out of International Health Insurance for those students who enrolled in January 2010.
February, 2010	Friday	19	Last day to withdraw from Winter term courses with pro-rated refund (see University Refund Policy).

May, 2010	Monday	03	UNB Fredericton Intersession Term begins. Term ends on Tuesday, June 22. UNB Saint John Spring Term begins. Term ends on Friday, August 13. Tuition fees are due the first day of classes .
	Wednesday-Thursday	19-20	The 181st Encaenia - Fredericton Campus.
	Friday	21	The 36th Spring Convocation - Saint John Campus
	Friday	21	Last day to opt-out of International Health Insurance for Intersession or Spring Session.
	Monday	24	Victoria Day. University Holiday - No classes *.

* Except for essential operations, most university offices will be closed on the dates indicated as “University Holiday”. Essential functions, for example, Security, Heating Plant and the Residences will be staffed and operational. Physical Plant will have staff on call should they be needed. A few departments and facilities such as the libraries, computer labs, Financial Services, Registrar’s Offices may offer some services on certain holidays.
