UNIVERSITY OF NEW BRUNSWICK Calendar of Academic Dates 2008-2009 NOTE: The dates shown below apply to undergraduate programs. They do not necessarily apply to the School of Graduate Studies, the Faculty of Law, or to courses offered through the College of Extended Learning. Students in other programs should consult the appropriate calendar or brochure.

	Friday	08	UNB Saint John Summer Session classes end.
	Monday	11	UNB Fredericton Summer Session classes end.
	Saturday	30	Residence opens for new students.
September, 2008	Monday	01	Labour Day. University Holiday - No classes *.
	Wednesday	03	Residence open for continuing students .
	Tuesday - Friday	02-05	Academic Programming and Orientation Week.
	Thursday	04	Start of Classes. Both Campuses. Last day for payment of appropriate University fees.
	Wednesday	17	Last day for adding Fall term and full-year courses. Fall term and full year courses dropped up to and including this date are not shown on the academic record.
	Friday	19	Last Day to opt-out of Student Union Health and Dental Plan. Last Day to opt-out of International Health Insurance.
October, 2008	Monday	13	Thanksgiving Day. University Holiday - No classes *.
	Friday	17	Last day to withdraw from Fall term courses with pro-rated refund. (see University Refund Policy).
	Thursday	23	Fall Convocation - UNB Fredericton.
	Friday	24	Fall Convocation - UNB Saint John.
	Thursday	30	Last day to withdraw from Fall term courses without academic penalty. A grade of "W" (Withdrawn) will be shown on the academic record.
November, 2008	Tuesday	11	Remembrance Day. University Holiday - No classes *.
	Wednesday	19	Last day in Fall term to hold class tests. (see Regulations on Examination, Standings and Promotion)
December, 2008	Wednesday	03	Last day of Fall Term classes.
	Thursday - Friday	04-05	Reading Days
	Saturday	06	Final examinations begin.
	Thursday	18	Final examinations end.
January, 2009	Thursday	01	New Year's Day - University Holiday - No classes*.
	Tuesday	06	Start of classes for both campuses - Winter term.
	Friday	16	Last day for payment of Winter term fees for new students. Last day for payment of University fees for full-time students paying by installments.
	Monday	19	Last day for adding Winter term courses. Winter term courses dropped up to and including this date are not shown on the academic record. Last day to withdraw from full-year courses without academic penalty. A notation of "W" (Withdrawn) will be shown on the academic transcript.
	Friday	23	Last Day to opt-out of Student Union Health and Dental Plan for those students who enrolled in January 2009. Last Day to opt-out of International Health Insurance for those students who enrolled in January 2009.

April, 2009	Thursday	09	Last day of Winter Term classes.
	Friday-Monday	10-13	Easter. University Holiday - No classes *.
	Tuesday	14	Final examinations begin.
	Saturday	25	Final examinations end.
May, 2009	Friday	01	UNB Fredericton Intersession Term begins. Term ends on Monday, June 22. Tuition fees are due the first day of classes .
	Monday	04	UNB Saint John Spring Session begins. Term ends on Saturday, July 4. Tuition fees are due the first day of classes.
	Monday	18	Victoria Day. University Holiday - No classes *.
	Friday	22	Last day to opt-out of International Health Insurance for Intersession or Spring Session.
	Wednesday-Thursday	27-28	The 180th Encaenia - Fredericton Campus.
	Friday	29	The 35th Spring Convocation - Saint John Campus
June, 2009	Saturday	06	UNB Fredericton On-Campus Early Registration for new students. Dates and details to be announced for UNB Saint John On-Campus Early Registration for New Students.
	Monday	22	UNB Fredericton Intersession Ends

Teaching days: Fall Term 2008 - 63; Winter Term 2009 - 63 * Except for essential operations, most university offices will be closed on the dates indicated as “University Holiday”. Essential functions, for example, Security, Heating Plant and the Residences will be staffed and operational. Physical Plant will have staff on call should they be needed. A few departments and facilities such as the libraries, computer labs, Financial Services, Registrar’s Offices may offer some services on certain holidays.
