Newcastle is located in Northern UK, and has a population of around 300,000 people. It was voted as the Best City in the North in April 2007 by the Daily Telegraph newspaper.
It's the 6th largest city in the UK and the regional centre for business and entertainment. Newcastle has an oceanic climate and benefits from the warming effect of the Gulf Stream.
The School of Language, Literature and Linguistics has more than 700 undergraduate students and 200 postgraduates, and its research is highly ranked.
