What did you find different about studying in a German University? The language! Nothing there is done in English… even in their international studies department.
Best things about Germany? Groceries were so cheap! I could get a full weeks of groceries for 20 euros.
What do you find most interesting about Germany? How easy it is to get around. The tram system is amazing!
Most memorable experience in Germany? Roommates and the UNBSJ students who lived in Efferen went out for supper, we ended up meeting a man from England who had worked at the pulp and paper mill in Saint John…Talk about a small world.
What surprised you most about Germany? Their international registration office doesn’t have English speakers. I found it very difficult to communicate when I went to get my Visa done.
Food you missed the most and could not get in Germany? PEANUT BUTTER
What did you miss about Canada when you studied abroad? I couldn’t find Skim milk or Peanut Butter so I really missed some of the food I would normally eat.
What do you like most about studying abroad? It’s so easy to travel. While using Cologne as a home base we were able to cheaply travel to all kinds of different countries. I saw more of Europe in 5 months than I’ve seen of Canada all my life.
How many other countries did you visit when you were studying abroad? Rome, Italy; Paris, France; Amsterdam, Holland; Berlin, Germany; Dublin, Ireland; Nairn, Scotland; Edinburgh, Scotland; New Castle, England; London, England
What are your future plans? I hope to be able to go to medical school.
Do you have any advice to future students, who may wish to study abroad? Make sure you have all the information before hand! Know where you’re going, how you’re going to get there and most importantly know where you get your registration and Visa done! You don’t want to end up going to the wrong office and having an issue when you’re going to leave the country!
