Practical English Program (P.E.P)

Beginning in July 2010, the University of New Brunswick's Saint John College will be delivering its Practical English Program (P.E.P.) in China.

The P.E.P. was first introduced in New Brunswick in 2007 as an officially recognized program of the Government of New Brunswick to develop the English language competencies of applicants to the Provincial Nominee Program.

The P.E.P. has now been developed into two phases, with Phase 1 delivered in China prior to landing and Phase 2 still being delivered in New Brunswick following landing. The program is the presently the only one fully approved by the government of New Brunswick as meeting its new requirements for nomination.

The program is available to all Provincial Nominee Program applicants from China to the Province of New Brunswick. The program meets the Province of New Brunswick's standards for pre-landing English language training.

The program will consist of 192 hours of training. Participants will study English for six hours per week. The total cost of P.E.P. 1 (China) will be $2,750CAD. P.E.P. 1 (China) does not replace the current requirement for newly landed immigrants from China to participate in the P.E.P. program in New Brunswick which will provide them with an additional 288 hours of English in Canada at a price of $3,500 CAD.

From July to December 2010, the program will be available in Shanghai, Nanjing and Hangzhou. Expansion to Qingdao, Beijing, and Shenzhen are planned for early 2011.

As the program grows, special accommodations may be made as required to ensure all provincial nomination clients can have their pre-landing English language requirement met in a timely fashion. We encourage all immigration firms referring clients to New Brunswick to contact Ms. Michelle Cook (mcook@unb.ca).
