English language training: EAP
This program prepares students for university studies in English and introduces them to the Canadian university environment.
What is the EAP program?
- A full-time program for international students who need to improve their English skills in preparation for university study
- A pathway into undergraduate programs at the University of New Brunswick Saint John
Who should take the EAP program?
- International students who have been accepted to undergraduate programs at UNB Saint John but who need to improve their English skills as a condition of their acceptance
- International students who plan to apply for undergraduate or graduate degrees in English universities but who need to improve their English skills first
How long is the program?
The EAP Program has six levels - the lowest level is Pre-EAP and the highest level is Level 5. Each level is 8 weeks in length.
Most students do not need to complete all 6 levels; most students complete 3-4 levels and spend a total of 12-14 months in the program.
How many hours of class will I have each week?
In each level of the EAP Program, students are in class for 30 hours per week. In each level, students take 4 courses: Listening/Speaking, Reading/Grammar, Writing, and Language Lab.
How do I know what levels I will study?
All new students write the English Language placement test when they arrive at Saint John College. The placement test tells Saint John College at which level of the Program students will begin their studies.
What is the cost of the program?
Each 8-week term of the EAP Program costs $2,750* CAD. The Program fee includes placement testing, textbooks, some extra-curricular activities. Fees are subject to change without notice.
When can I join the EAP program?
Students can join the EAP Program at 6 times each year: January, March, May, July, September and November. Entry dates are subject to change without notice.
How do I apply?
There are 2 ways to apply to the EAP program:
- Apply to UNB Saint John if you plan to study in an undergraduate degree program, or
- Contact us if you plan to study only English or want to study English before you apply to the University of New Brunswick Saint John.
