In additional to having small class sizes and personable Instructors, UNB Saint John has taken extra steps to ensure you have the tools to succeed in university math and science.
The Flora Beckett Math and Science Help Centre provides additional help to students encountering problems in their mathematics and intro science classes. The Help Centre comprises a team of qualified tutors coordinated by a faculty member from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Services provided through the Help Centre are free to all full and part-time UNB students.
Drop-in tutoring help is available Sunday to Thursday 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. No appointments are needed. The Centre is located in the Hans. W. Klohn Commons, rooms 133 and 134.

Are you planning to take a first-year university mathematics course at UNB Saint John in 2016-2017?
The Flora Beckett Math & Science Help Centre, HWKC 134, will be offering a series of three (3) precalculus workshops that begin on Tuesday, August 30, and run until Thursday, September 1. Both morning and evening sessions will be offered subjected to registration numbers.
The workshops will focus on reviewing and practising the concepts and skills needed for first year mathematics courses, and to assist those in preparing for UNB Math Placement Test.
Mental Arithmetic and Basic Algebra: Real numbers, rules of arithmetic, interval notation, inequalities, absolute values, completing the square, rationalizing numerators and denominators, etc.; Tuesday, August 30; morning session 9-11 a.m. or evening session 5-7 p.m.
Functions and Graphs; Exponents, Roots and Logarithms: Cartesian coordinates, functions and inverse functions, domain and range, composition of functions, polynomials, slope and intercepts of line, quadratic formula, factorizing polynomials, laws of exponents and logarithms, etc.; Wednesday, August 31; morning session 9-11 a.m. or evening session 5-7 p.m.
Geometry and Basic Trigonometry: Shapes, similar triangles, Pythagoras’ Theorem, parallel lines, midpoint and distance formulas, circle properties, area formulas, radians, trigonometric functions and identities, sine and cosine laws, inverse trigonometric functions, etc.; Thursday, September 1; morning session 9-11 a.m. or evening session 5-7 p.m.
