Students are encouraged to move in on their specified move-in day between 8 am and 5 pm.
Due to logistics and orientation, students are only permitted to move in early if they are a co-op student and must start their work term early, are an international student with a pre-arranged flight itinerary, or are a student athlete who must come back early. Proof is required. This must be communicated with the Residence Life Office by e-mailing email@example.com with your request and either faxing or emailing your supporting documentation. You will receive an e-mail from the Coordinator whether your request is approved or denied.
Arriving outside of check-in hours
If you are not arriving between 8 am and 5 pm on your specified move-in day, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your name, room #/residence and let us know when you will be arriving. That way we can ensure an RA is here to great you and get you settled into your new home.
It is recommended as a new student that you try to check-in during regular hours, this way you will be able to participate in all the activities, meet all the staff and receive the same experience as all the other students.
If you are unsure of your arrival date and time and you arrive at residence and no one is around to greet you, contact the Security Office which is located in the Athletics Centre on the main floor (first building on the right when you enter the campus). Security will then contact the RA on duty and meet you at the Sir James Dunn Residence.
Regardless of what residence you live in, the check-in area is located at the front of Mackay Residence. Here you will meet the Residence Life Team and Residence Council, and to be checked in by an RA. If you are arriving after 5 pm, please notify Residence Admissions.
While we hope that you are coming back to be with us in the near future or next school year, we understand that residence living sometimes isn't for everyone. Please contact the Residence Life Coordinator or talk to an RA if you are experiencing any difficulties. If we don't know, we can't help you.
Before checking out of your room:
- Call the RA at least 30 minutes before your planned departure to ensure sufficient time to go over the Room Inventory Form.
- Ensure that everything is taken down off the walls, the room is clean and your belongings are packed. If these three things are not done, the RA will ask you to do so before you check out.
- Remember to have your mailbox key with you
