Pride in our international student enrolment
The University of New Brunswick Saint John MBA program has a great history of cultural diversity.
Students from around the globe come here to study business and yet find so much more: a city that embraces them and a community that encourages them to get involved in university and city life.
International students who have been accepted into the UNB Saint John MBA program are required to follow some guidelines before being permitted to study in Canada.
International students study permit
International students require a study permit from Citizen and Immigration Canada (CIC) to attend UNB Saint John. Once you have been accepted into our MBA program, you will receive a letter of acceptance which allows you to apply for this permit.
It takes time for the different Canadian visa offices to process the number of study permit applications they receive, so the sooner you start the process, the better. Keep in mind there is no guarantee of acceptance, and any final steps – such as purchasing plane tickets or quitting a job – should only take place after your study permit is approved.

Documentation needed for a study permit
You will need the following documentation :
- Proof of acceptance to UNB Saint John
- Proof of identity
- Proof of financial support
Additional information or documents
You may need to pass a medical exam as part of your study permit. The Visa Officer will tell you how to make this happen. A police certificate, which entails a security or criminal check for anyone over 18 years, may also be required.
Cost
The cost to apply for a study permit is $125 Canadian dollars.
Checklist
When you arrive to Canada, you will go through customs and should be prepared to show the following:
- the letter of introduction from CIC that you received when your study permit was approved, showing your permit reference number;
- your passport;
- a Temporary Resident Visa (if required);
- an original or copy of a letter of acceptance from UNB Saint John;

Post-graduation employment program
The post-graduation employment program is designed to provide graduating students with Canadian work experience. Students may work in Canada for up to three years after graduation.
The work permit cannot be valid longer than the length of time the student studied.
You may apply for a work permit if you:
- graduated from a specific program of full-time study (of at least eight months) in Canada at a public post-secondary institution
- have a valid study permit when you apply for the work permit; and
- have not previously been issued a work permit for post-graduation employment following any other course of study.
