Cathie Hurley, MBA, CA
Senior Teaching Associate
Cathie Hurley joined the Faculty of Business in 1982 and is a member of the Accounting, Finance and General Business area. She teaches courses primarily in Financial Accounting and Management Accounting both in the BBA, BAM and MBA programmes. She also teaches Accounting Information Systems and General Business.
She has received recognition from the Canadian Academic Accounting Association for her Innovation in Accounting Pedagogy.
In addition to her discipline, Cathie’s interest areas also include programme and curriculum development to respond to the needs of today’s student, and the integration of new developments and technology to enhance the learning environment.
Experience
Prior to joining the University of New Brunswick, Cathie practiced public accounting, managed her own consulting company, and also owned and operated a clothing manufacturing business. Cathie has an extensive record of service to UNB. Her service has included administrative positions such as Director of Undergraduate Studies and Assistant Dean for the Faculty of Business.
As Director of Undergraduate Studies, Cathie was responsible for the management of the BBA and BAM undergraduate programmes at UNBSJ and Beijing Concord College. She was also responsible for all international agreements for exchange relationships between the Faculty of Business and other educational partners. This position also had wider responsibilities including recruitment and orientation of part-time faculty, curriculum review issues and the implementation and compliance with degree and programme regulations on behalf of students and faculty.
As Assistant Dean – International Programmes and External Academic Partnerships – Cathie was responsible for the development and promotion of International programmes and also the development, management and promotion of our academic relationships with more than thirty colleges across Canada and internationally.
She has also participated in the governance structure of UNB as member of the Board of Governors for UNB, the Board of Governor’s Finance and Investments Committees and other sub-committees as requested. She also served as a member of the Joint Nominating Committee for the selection of the 18th President of UNB.
Cathie has served as a Member of the Saint John Senate, and numerous Senate Committees as a member and Chair. Most notably, Cathie has extensive involvement in Curriculum and served on the Senate Curriculum Committee for seven years.

Contributions to practice
She is a member in good standing of the New Brunswick Institute of Chartered Accountants (NBICA) and has served on the NBICA Council including a term as President of the Institute. She has also served as Chair of the Atlantic School of Chartered Accountancy. Cathie has recently been recognized for her outstanding contribution by being awarded her FCA.
