Graduate programs

At UNB you'll discover one of the oldest graduate schools in Canada. Since 1785, we've worked hard to create a tight-knit community of people dedicated to learning more about the world around them.

New Brunswick's research powerhouse

You'll benefit from the fact that UNB is a true research powerhouse: 75 per cent of all research conducted at New Brunswick universities happens at UNB, with over $50 million in research funding awarded annually.

At UNB, faculty and staff are easily accessible and willing to go that extra mile for you. Our environment is one of collaboration where students and world-class researchers work side-by-side.

See the School of Graduate Studies for an in-depth look at all of our graduate programs.

Interdisciplinary studies

Our interdisciplinary studies program enables students to pursue individualized and innovative interdisciplinary research outside the boundaries of existing discipline-specific graduate programs.

Our interdisciplinary students work with over 75 faculty members across all major disciplines on both campuses. The interdisciplinary program offers students an opportunity to complete both Master's (MA) and Doctoral (PhD) programs.

Psychology

UNB Saint John’s psychology graduate program will teach you the advanced research and statistical skills to become a professional psychologist. Our program combines coursework, independent research and collaborations with supervisors to give students a well-rounded understanding of experimental psychology.

Our graduates have been successful in developing diverse career paths in hospitals, government agencies, non-profit and community outreach organizations, as well as research centres and universities.

Sociology

The sociology graduate program offers full-time or part-time research-intensive degrees that give you the skills and knowledge necessary for advanced positions with private, public, and charitable employers.

Students admitted to the master's and doctoral programs will take some courses at the Fredericton campus but can complete other courses, their practicums, and Teaching Assistantships, at the Saint John campus.
