Dr. Joanna Everitt

Dr. Joanna Everitt, Dean of ArtsDr. Joanna Everitt is a Professor of Political Science at the University of New Brunswick in Saint John.

She received her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, and her BA from Carleton University. She joined the Faculty of Arts’ Department of History & Politics in 1997 and was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of New Brunswick in Saint John in 2009. In 2007 she was awarded the Allan P. Stuart Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Joanna Everitt specializes in Canadian politics, gender and politics, and political behavior. Along with producing two books, she has published dozens of articles in national and international journals and edited collections. Her research specifically examines gender differences in public opinion, media coverage of male and female party leaders and its impact on leadership evaluations, and advocacy organizations and social capital. She is part of an internationally recognized group of scholars that make up the team producing the 2004, 2006 and 2008 Canadian Election Studies that focus on voting behavior in Canadian elections.

Dr. Everitt is a long-time member of the Canadian Political Science Association and has sat on its Board of Directors and its Task Force on Diversity. She is also a member of the editorial boards of the Canadian Journal of Political Science and the Canadian Political Science Review.
