Advising for second-year students

For students who are entering their second year of studies, you need to select your courses before seeing the Academic Advisor.

The Academic Advisor will not select your courses for you but is here to guide you through gathering the information needed so you successfully complete your degree.

Using the undergraduate calendar, you can look at course descriptions and determine if there are course prerequisites.

Registration for continuing UNB students for the 2018 Winter (18/WI) term is on-going until Friday, January 12, 2018 at 11:59pm. See the course timetable for course details.

You should review your transcript to make sure you have met your Bachelor of Arts Degree Requirements.  You need to choose at least 2 term-courses (6ch) in three of the four groups in the advising & course groupings at the 1000 and 2000 level. Most students will complete this requirement in their first year.

The last day to add or drop 17/FA term-courses was Friday, Sept. 15, 2017 by 11:55 p.m. The add/drop date for Fall and Winter terms is the second Friday of classes.

The last day to withdraw (W) from 17/FA term-courses without academic penalty was Monday, Oct. 30, 2017 by 11:55 p.m. A "W", meaning withdraw, will appear in the grade grade column beside the course but the "W" in no way affects your Grade Point Average (GPA).

Students are advised during Open Office Hours (except the first two weeks of the Fall and Winter terms). Open office hours means that students are seen on a first to arrive - first to be advised basis as appointments are not taken. Remember to bring an updated copy of your unofficial UNB transcript with you, which you can get through your e-services under the academic tab.

Regular open office hours for the 17/FA term from Monday, Sept. 18 to Tuesday, Dec. 19 are as follows:

  • Monday, 9 - 11:20 a.m.
  • Tuesday, 1:30 - 3:50 p.m.
  • Thursday, 9 - 11:20 a.m.

Due to asthma and allergies please refrain from smoking and wearing perfume, cologne, deodorant, after shave, body sprays and other scented products when you come to the office for advising. Thank you.

If you email Tanya please be sure that you include your name, student number and your career/educational goals along with the list of courses that you are registered for. The Academic Advisor will look your selections over and make recommendations based on all of this information.

If you know what discipline you want to honour, major, double major and/or minor in, contact a Faculty Advisor in the appropriate discipline(s).
