Academic advising for new students

New students starting in September 2023 (23/FA) or January 2024 (24/WI) with no previous post-secondary education (university or college) should review the 2023-2024 advising information below for advising information on how to plan and register for courses. This information is updated throughout the year as necessary.

Choosing your courses

These advising tools will help you choose your courses for the year.

  1. Activating your IT services and setting up multi-factor authentication (MFA): Activating your UNB IT services gives you access to your myUNB Intranet and UNB email. From your myUNB Intranet, you are able to access student planning & registration, course registration, financial information and more. To activate your IT services account, use your student number and login ID that was included in your acceptance letter.
  1. Read through the Faculty of Arts advising instructions for a guide to planning your courses.
  1. Our advising and course groupings sheets lay out the potential courses that you can choose from in your first year.
  1. Log into my.unb.ca then come back and use these tools. Use the How to Register Quick Reference for information on planning and registration. There is also an instructional video to assist you.

After planning and registering for courses

For a course review by an Academic Advisor, email your course selections to sjadvising@unb.ca for review. In the subject line of the email, put “2023 - 2024 course selections”. Use your UNB email account and be sure to include your name, student number, and any career or educational goals that you may have. A review will be done and feedback sent to you.
