A joint function of the Security & Traffic Division and the Environmental Health and Safety Office is the administration of a comprehensive accident investigation system. All matters pertaining to Workers' Compensation are coordinated with the University Human Resources Department. Every accident involving personal injury, near injury, or property damage, as in the case of vehicle collision or fire damage to buildings, is reviewed and corrective action is recommended.
Accident or a "near miss" where an individual could have sustained serious injury or where corrective action should be taken to prevent another incident of the same type, should be reported to your supervisor. An Internal Accident Report Form must be completed by the individual and signed by the department head. Copies must be distributed to Security, Environmental Health and Safety and the Budget Office with 24 hours of occurrence.
The UNB Internal Accident Report Form is available in all departmental offices or from Environmental Health and Safety.
Where an individual is seriously injured, or an accidental explosion or chemical exposure has occurred, whether or not injury has occurred, the incident must be reported immediately after the occurrence to the New Brunswick Workplace Health Safety & Compensation Commission (WHSCC) at 453-2467 during regular office hours or 1-800-442-9776 after hours.
